More Photo Sites

EyephotojptIn an earlier post I talked about FreeFoto and Stock.XCHNG, two sites with access to free photos.  A post on cnet brought two others to my attention:  Yotophoto and everystockphoto.  Yotophoto claims to be the "first internet search engine for finding free-to-use photographs and images", but those who have been reading this blog know better.  ;)

The Creative Commons web site is another good place to start when looking for works in the pubic domain.

Thanks for the clarification Robert.

The key phrase is 'Internet Search Engine' which is generally accepted to mean a tool that searches the wider web. This is opposed to on-site searching, which nearly every site has these days (including your blog).

As another example, Wikipedia allows you to search its archive of articles but you would never call it an 'Internet Search Engine'. Google of course certainly fits this description.

Not that I would compare us to Google or anything ;-)

Mark

Hi Mark,
I was alluding to FreeFoto (which has been posting photos since 1998 or 1999) and Stock.XCHNG (which started in 2001) - both of which provide indexes of free-to-use photographs and images. My earlier posts would contradict the literal interpretation of Yotophoto’s claim.

However, in indexing other sites instead of simply hosting photos, Yotophoto certainly does more than FreeFoto or Stock.XCHNG, so I stand corrected. Thanks for the comments!

Hi Rob and thanks for the mention. I was just wondering what you meant by your comment:

Yotophoto claims to be the "first internet search engine for finding free-to-use photographs and images", but those who have been reading this blog know better. ;)

Just wondering if there is something I missed, because I can't seem to figure out what you're alluding to. I certainly have no intention of misleading anyone :-)

Let me know, thanks!
